Natureculture

Natureculture, a concept proposed by Donna Haraway, interrogates the nature/culture dualism by arguing that nature and culture are too intricately intertwined to be viewed as isolated ideas.

This ongoing series began as part of my practice-based research for my master’s degree. As I was in the forest photographing native species, I noticed that there was a significant amount of human presence visible in the woods, so I started photographing that, too. I collected some of the found items and brought them home to photograph for further documentation.

This process helped me uncover how intertwined the forest and human-placed items had become. I noticed that the items looked out of place when in nature, but when I took the objects away they almost appeared to be of nature, due to the organic remains clinging to them.
